After its owners announced the name chosen by its supporters, the Indian Premier League’s Lucknow club will be known as the Lucknow Super Giants. The official IPL franchise of Lucknow, owned by RPSG Group, opted to poll its followers, and owner Sanjiv Goenka revealed the name in a video message on Monday 24th jan 2022.
“Thank you so much for responding so enthusiastically to the ‘Naam banao Naam kamao’ contest. “We are thrilled to choose the name for the Lucknow IPL team based on the thousands of individuals who responded,” Goenka stated in his statement, announcing the team name.
“And the name that we have chosen based on your recommendations is Lucknow Super Giants. Thank you so much for your response and love, and continue to give us your blessings in the future as well.”
Last year, the franchise was purchased for Rs 7090 crores by the RPSG group, which Sanjiv Goenka owns. The other new team to enter the game is Ahmedabad, bought for Rs 5635 crores by the Irelia Company Pte Ltd. (CVC Capital Partners).
On January 21, the RPSG group’s Lucknow franchise signed KL Rahul for Rs 17 crore, Marcus Stoinis for Rs 9.2 crore, and Ravi Bishnoi, an uncapped leg spinner, for Rs 4 crore.
Ahmedabad, controlled by CVC, has signed Hardik and Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan for Rs 15 crore each while paying Rs 7 crore for batter Shubman Gill, according to their director of cricket Vikram Solanki.
They’ll assemble the remainder of their team during the Bengaluru mega auction on February 12 and 13.
The BCCI has announced that the 2022 IPL will be held from the final week of March to the end of May. According to Board Secretary Jay Shah, attempts will be made to organize the lucrative tournament in India following team owners’ demands.
“I am thrilled to confirm that the IPL’s 15th season will begin in the final week of March and go until the end of May.” In a news release released by the BCCI, Shah was cited as saying, “A majority of the team owners indicated their desire for the tournament to be staged in India.”
