Most of us are fond of collecting information about the latest smartphones, and most of the youth want to buy upcoming smartphones. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra review

The Galaxy S20 Ultra was the biggest surprise on this year’s Galaxy flagship list. Samsung’s homegrown Mega Size phablet is by far the most expensive non-folding smartphone. If you wonder why it costs Rs. 92,999, that’s because it boasts the most extensive and 120Hz QHD + AMOLED screen, best-in-class hardware, and an insane 108MP quad-lens camera system capable of 10x lossless zoom and 100x optical zoom.
PROS

  • Best-in-class performance and audio performance versatile
  • Zoom Camera with impressive performance
  • Great device for gaming
  • Very well optimized software
  • High-quality optics
  • Excellent audio performance
  • Long-lasting battery

CONS

  • Expensive affair
  • Bulky, not manufactured for one-handed operation
  • 108MP camera and 100x zoom are gimmicks
  • 8K video recording offers no real benefit at 4K @ 60fps
  • Minor discrepancies in the camera’s software algorithm overshadow in-screen fingerprint scanner.

Can be found as large phones in 2020

True to their ‘Ultra’ moniker, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is an Android phablet with a mega-size. The smartphone looks massive in hand, almost like a metal-glass brick, with the largest AMOLED screen (6.9-inch) in the city. It also dwarfs the Galaxy Note 10+, which can make you aware of its larger form-factor. The glass-metal structure also addresses it heavy and extremely slippery.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra is 166.9x76x8.8 mm long and weighs 222 grams. Interestingly, the iPhone 11 Pro at 226 g is heavier than the S20 Ultra.

However, Due to the huge performance, heavyweight, and mixed impact of the glass-metal construction, you can easily forget to use this one-handed phablet without a case.

The color scheme is also a bit boring and dull. The Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with only two color variants – Cosmic Gray and Cosmic Black. A report suggests that Samsung may soon launch a new color variant for the S20 Ultra to add some visual flair to the kit.

Massive camera hump

The large camera bump on the rear edge is hard to ignore. It encircles about one-third of the rear plate, and when placed on a flat surface, produces something resembling the S20 Ultra Wobble. It is a reasonable trade-off that Samsung had to fit into very specialized camera hardware capable of taking 108MP shots and recording 8K videos.

Samsung can also be seen boldly displaying the ‘Space Zome 100X’ at the bottom of the camera module to display the 100x zoom feature. Sadly, the struggle to impress images at 100x zoom. Honestly, any brand should have claimed the feature as it marks a fresh start in smartphone photography.

Bezel-less Beauty

The Galaxy S20 Ultra front features a massive 6.9-inch AMOLED screen. It is a pure pleasure to watch the QHD + OLED panel with sleek curves and almost zero bezels. The cutout core design is much more symmetrical than the Galaxy S10 + provided by the company. It’s hard to believe that the small punch-hole cutout has a massive 40MP selfie camera installed. The power button and volume rockers are placed on the right edge.

At the bottom, there is a Type-C port, a microphone, and a speaker. In addition to the secondary receiver, the SIM card tray is located above. Importantly, you may not even know that an earpiece grill is also in the top half of the display. It is invisible to the eye but functions fantastically.

Sturdy Build Quality, IP68 Certified, No 3.5mm Headphone Jack

Being the flag bearer of the Samsung Galaxy Series flagship, the phablet feels ultra-premium and has a robust design. Samsung has also added Gorilla Glass 6 to the front and back panels to protect against glass scratches and possible damage. The metal-glass structure looks very durable, and the phablet is also IP68 certified to protect water and dust. The smartphone can survive up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.

It is 2020, and you cannot expect a flagship smartphone to offer the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack, so there are no complaints in this department.

Overall, the Galaxy S20 Ultra is not designed for everyone and is not intended for users who prefer a convenient, lightweight phone. You need to find the Galaxy S20 or look for the Galaxy S20 + as well. The Galaxy S20 + is superb ergonomic despite fluctuations in a full 6.7-inch display (just 0.2 inches shorter than the Galaxy S20 Plus).

Best Ever Display on A Smartphone

The exemplary screen from the Galaxy S20 Ultra has practically spoiled me for life. Using multimedia content is a great display. Super punch colors, fluid 120Hz refresh rate and amazing QHD + resolution are stopping streaming video, play games, or scroll through the timeline of your social media platform. You will also find yourself just staring at the wallpaper because they did not look this good on a 20: 9 aspect ratio form-factor. Or it may just be a lockdown effect.

But apart from jokes, Samsung has presented the most prominent display so far this time on Samsung Galaxy series handsets. Talking about technology, the Galaxy S20 Ultra has a 6.9-inch QHD + (3200x1440px) resolution display that churns out 511ppi pixel density. You can either run the display at maximum. QHD + can increase the resolution with the more conventional 60 Hz refresh rate, or the refresh rate up to 120 Hz at reduced 1080p resolution.

Samsung has done this to help you save some battery life, but I think users should know how to adjust the refresh rate and resolution. A quick tip – set the resolution for QHD + while streaming video and bump up the refresh rate to 120Hz during the regular operation for a surprisingly fluid user-experience.

The screen also supports 240Hz touch sensing. It is the brightest AMOLED panel from Samsung’s home and is as high as 895nits. I did not face any issues in reading texts, watching videos, and even playing games in harsh natural light. The panel supports HDR10 +, so watching Netflix content on the Galaxy S20 Ultra in HDR is a perfect treat. In short, it is a mobile phone for consumers who like to download multimedia content on their devices.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Camera Performance

We’ve covered the insane 108MP camera setup of the Galaxy S20 Ultra in detail. The review will give you a detailed overview of image/video quality, 100x zoom space zoom feature, and other essential aspects such as daylight, low-light, and more. Here are some pointers that make it easier for you to understand the performance of the camera.

  • The primary 108MP camera uses Samsung’s own Bright HM1 ISOCELL sensor. The larger 1 / 1.33 “sensor applies quad-Bayer technology, which results in 0.8μm of each colored pixel being sent to 2.4μm pixels on individual photos.
  • The primary sensor is with a 48MP telephoto camera, placed in a complex architecture with a periscope lens. The third lens in the setup is an ultrawide angle lens with a 12MP fixed focus f / 2.2, which provides a field-of-view of 123 °.
  • The last sensor in the quad-lens camera setup is a 0.3MP, f / 1.0 ToF sensor to make bokeh. For the selfie, the Galaxy S20 Ultra sports a 26 mm wide 40 MP sensor with f / 2.2 aperture. The selfie camera also supports PDAF.
