Android smartphone manufacturers have trailed behind Apple to provide regular software updates for years. Only a few businesses have promised updates for more than three years. With its Pixel series, Google made an exception. On the other hand, Samsung can now claim to have outperformed Google in terms of Android OS updates.
Samsung confirmed that its flagship phones would receive four years of Android updates during the unveiling of the Galaxy S22 series of smartphones.
Five years of security updates on select Galaxy devices
In a press statement, Galaxy stated that it will provide users with the “most up-to-date and secure mobile experience imaginable” by delivering “up to four generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades on select Galaxy devices.”
Google- only three years of Android updates
The Google Pixel 6 series, on the other hand, comes with only three years of Android updates. On the other hand, Apple is known for providing iPhone users with iOS updates for at least six years.
Samsung Galaxy devices that have received four generations of One UI and five years of security upgrades are eligible.
- Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, S21 FE, and upcoming S series devices Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, S21 FE, and upcoming S series devices
- Galaxy Z series devices include the Galaxy Z Fold3, Galaxy Z Flip3, and forthcoming Z series devices.
- Galaxy A Series: future gadgets from the A-series
- Tablets from Samsung include the Galaxy Tab S8, S8+, S8 Ultra, and the forthcoming Tab S series.
Samsung also stated that it intends to broaden this initiative throughout its Galaxy ecosystem product lines to deliver Android OS upgrades via Samsung UI.
Samsung will now give up to five years of security updates on select Galaxy devices, in addition to extended One UI improvements. These upgrades will provide more secure end-to-end protection for Galaxy devices against potential security attacks.
Good news for Samsung Galaxy Enterprise Edition buyers
Customers who purchase the Samsung-Galaxy Enterprise Edition will also receive a one-year subscription for Samsung-Knox Suite solutions, which will allow them to deploy and manage devices via a dashboard that records security upgrades and other features.
