Virat Kohli Steps down as test captain after the series lost in South Africa

Virat Kohli made everyone stunt by quitting test captaincy following the pathetic series defeat against South Africa. BCCI already posted a thanksgiving note to Kohli for his contribution as a captain in every form of cricket.

Virat Kohli released his statement on his social media handles that he will not be the captain of the test format again. He was a permanent Indian Test captain since 2015. He was the most successful captain in the test format for India. Under his captaincy, India won 40 test matches out of 68 tests. He was the first-ever Indian captain to win the test series in Australia. That winning series made India at the top of the ICC Test rankings.

But after losing the world test championship, Virat Kohli, as well as the Indian team, was going downwards. Virat told his earlier interviews that he mainly focused on the South Africa series. But this series also became a nightmare for Virat as India lost this series.

BCCI and Kohli’s relationship was not going properly for a few months. At first, Virat decided to step down as T20 format captain though BCCI president Sourav Ganguly allegedly requested not to take that step. But after the decision of Kohli, BCCI sacked him as ODI captain, too, as they wanted the same captain in limited over formats. Before today he was responsible as the test captain. But as he stepped down as test captain, he was no more captain of any cricket team of India.

Virat Kohli was appointed as captain after Dhoni stepped down as captain in 2015. After that, Virat was captain for 6 long years as test captain of India. He witnessed some remarkable and historic test matches in the home and away from the ground. Moreover, he removed the curse of not winning a series in Australia, which once seemed impossible for India.

Virat Kohli stated that he gave his 100 percent with honesty as captain on the leaving note. But at present, he thought it was the best time to halt his captainship to focus more on his performances. He further thanked BCCI for allowing him to be the captain of India. He also thanked his teammates and coach Ravi Shastri as they consistently motivated him to give the best for the country. He lastly thanked MS Dhoni as he found a good captain in Virat from the beginning.

As BCCI already posted a thank-giving note for Virat Kohli, so there is very little chance to revert the decision from any side. Hearing the statement, many crickets like Virendra Sehwag, Irfan Pathan already shared their feeling and thanked Virat for his services. Social media was flooded with posts from his fans to famous people as many people think that Virat could be the test captain for many years. But it is too late for that as Virat has already decided.
