What is Hartalika Teej, how is it celebrated? Let’s know its story

Since yesterday, there has been a lot of movement in the markets, women are seen applying mehndi in their hands, and somewhere they are buying adornment items at the shops, as it seems that there is a festival, you heard it right. Hartalika Teej is the day on which every woman observes this fast with great devotion for the long life of her husband.

Why Hartalika Teej is celebrated?

Hartalika fast is also known as Hartalika Teej or Teeja. It is celebrated mainly in Uttar Pradesh’s Purvanchal and Bihar. The fasting of Hartalika Teej is considered more difficult than Karva Chauth because, in the fasting of Karva Chauth, women drink water after seeing the moon. Still, in Hartalika Teej, women have to take water only after the next morning after worship. Therefore, this fast is considered very difficult and fruitful.

It is believed that fortunate women keep this fast to keep their marriage life intact and unmarried girls to get their desired groom. It is believed that Mother Parvati first observed this fast to get Lord Shiva as her husband. Following her, women observe this strict fast to get married life like Mother Parvati and Shiva.

How to keep Hartalika Teej fast

On this day, the married women who observe a fast wake up before sunrise and do a full bath make a pavilion made of banana leaves and set up a statue of Gauri Shankar, after which all the makeup of item is offered to Parvati. Then, in the night, while chanting hymns, aarti is performed thrice, and the story of Shiva Parvati’s marriage is heard.

This is the story of Hartalika Teej

The story is such that Goddess Sati could not bear the humiliation of her husband Shiva in her father’s Yagya, she burnt herself in this fire. In the next life, she was born as the daughter of the Raja of Himachal. And to keep the memory of her previous birth. She did penance to get Lord Shankar as her husband.

Goddess Parvati had accepted Lord Shiva as her husband in her mind, and she always started being absorbed in penance to Lord Shiva. Raja Himachal decided to get his daughter Uma married to Lord Vishnu. Parvati Ji did not want to marry Vishnu. Knowing Parvati’s mind, her friends took her to the dense forest, thus defeating her by facts at this time. Hartalika Vrat was named after.

Parvati Ji continued to do severe penance of Lord Shankar till he became her husband; since then, this fast has been observed with true devotion to Parvati Ji.

An unmarried girl can also keep this fast.

In some places, unmarried girls do this fast now. It is surprising that just as Mother Parvati got a husband like Lord Shiva by doing severe penance, in the same way, worshiping Shiva Parvati by fasting, you also receive a suitable life partner in the future; hence some homes this fast is also done to unmarried girls.
